In 2017 I experienced a creative, mid-life awakening. I had been a stay-at-home mom for 11 years. My three kids were starting to become more independent and I felt a new sense of aliveness after leaving my marriage. I had been taking photos for a few years and posting them to Instagram, but painting was not something I had done or even dreamed of doing. While I've always been "creative," I have no professional art training.
In 2018 I painted my first watercolor. My process came from a happy accident. While playing around with watercolor, dried leaves and Yupo paper on a warm August day, I realized I was onto something that others might enjoy: bright colors, fluidity, a sense of movement and natural elements. I was hooked by the process of seeking out new textures and mixing colors! Just a month later, with a few dozen small paintings, I made the decision to "go for it" and signed up for some holiday markets that fall. From there, both the momentum to produce new work and the presentation of synchronistic opportunities allowed me to grow, expand and KEEP GOING! I am proof that it's never too late and you're never too old. When you remain OPEN to new ideas and experiences, incredible possibilities present themselves.
When I'm not selling my work at Portland Saturday Market or piddling in my studio, you can find me hanging out with my family of 6: 3 kids, 2 cats and 1 dog. In summer we like to go stand-up paddle boarding, spend all day on the Washougal River at our secret spot and go on road trips to the beach. I also love story-telling, playing pickle ball, spending time with friends, trying other mediums of art and playing Wordle daily! I'd love your feedback and am happy to answer questions. Thanks for stopping by.
Please feel free to visit me at Portland Saturday Market and introduce yourself!
